MINUTE ORDER IN CHAMBERS of the Honorable Judge Miranda M. Du on 7/29/2026. Respondents filed a first motion to extend time to respond to Petitioners amended petition for writ of habeas corpus. (ECF No. 10 (Motion to Extend).) Respondents filed the Motion to Extend on July 28, the same date their response was due. (Id.) Petitioner responded opposing the Motion to Extend. (ECF No. 11 .) Respondents had 14 days to prepare their response or request an extension. (ECF No. 3 at 3.) Despite learning last Friday of an upcoming appellate deadline set three days after this deadline, Respondents counsel waited until the day the response was due to file this Motion to Extend. (ECF No. 10 at 1.) The Court finds Respondents do not demonstrate good cause for the requested 9-day extension, particularly considering the urgency of these matters. (Id.); see Yong v. I.N.S., 208 F.3d 1116, 1120 (9th Cir. 2000). Therefore, the Court will grant in part and deny in part Respondents Motion to Extend. (ECF No. 10 .) Respondents have until Friday, July 31 to file their response to the amended petition. (no image attached) (Copies have been distributed pursuant to the NEF - RIC) (Entered: 07/29/2026)
