MINUTE ORDER (IN CHAMBERS) ORDER SETTING BRIEFING SCHEDULE RE PETITIONERS APPLICATION FOR PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION AND TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER 4 by Judge Hernan D. Vera. The Court orders Respondents to file an opposition to the Application by May 18, 2026. In their brief, Respondents are to address the details of Petitioner's bond hearing and provide a transcript or audio recording of the proceeding. In the interim, based on the Court's inherent powers to preserve the status quo, Respondents are hereby enjoined from deporting Petitioner from the United States and enjoined from removing Petitioner outside the Central District of California. The Court refers the case to the Federal Public Defender ("FPD") for consideration of appointment of counsel for Petitioner. The FPD is ordered to file a response by May 21, 2026, indicating whether the FPD will represent Petitioner in this matter. The Court sets a hearing on the PI for May 26, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. Respondents are ordered to ensure that Petitioner is physically present at that hearing.
