May 06, 2026
Order [non-document] Counsel and the parties are hereby advised that this Court will not accept ex parte telephone calls to Chambers regarding substantive issues in pending cases. The Court speaks through its docket. While it may be appropriate to call Chambers regarding routine, non-substantive matters (such as requests for the dial in information for an upcoming status conference, etc.), it is not appropriate under any circumstances for counsel to call Chambers ex parte for guidance or clarification regarding substantive matters, including matters relating to existing case management deadlines, requests to file briefing, and/or inquiries regarding the status of pending motions. All questions regarding substantive matters in pending cases must be filed as a motion on the public docket, with the following exception. If a dispute arises during a deposition that requires this Court's immediate assistance, the parties may call Chambers for assistance, but must do so jointly (and not on an ex parte basis). Order on Motion to compel discovery
May 19, 2026
Order [non-document] The Court has reviewed Petitioner Ramos Ramirez's "Motion for Targeted and Expedited Discovery in support of Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus." (Doc. No. 5 .) For the following reasons, Petitioner's Motion is DENIED. As an initial matter, there is no evidence on the docket that Petitioner has perfected service on any of the Respondents in this matter. And even assuming arguendo that Respondents have been properly served, the Court finds that Petitioner has failed to demonstrate good cause for the proposed expedited discovery requests attached to his Motion. Petitioner cites no authority that it would be appropriate or warranted for this Court to order the Government to respond to extensive, expedited discovery in these habeas proceedings so that Petitioner may use it in his upcoming hearing in Immigration Court. Moreover, the Court finds that Petitioner's proposed expedited discovery requests and subpoena are neither "narrowly tailored" nor "targeted." To the contrary, the Court finds Petitioner's proposed First Set of Interrogatories, Requests for Production of Documents, and Requests for Admission (Doc. No. 5-1) and proposed Subpoena (Doc. No 5-2) to be overly broad and unduly burdensome. Accordingly, Petitioner's Motion (Doc. No. 5 ) is without merit and denied. Judge Pamela A. Barker on 5/19/2026.(P,K)

Order [non-document] The Court has reviewed Petitioner Ramos Ramirez's "Amended Motion to compel discovery." Consistent with the Court's prior order, Petitioner removed his expedited discovery requests for use in Immigration Court and narrowed the scope of evidence requested in his motion. Therefore, Respondent shall file a response to the Amended Motion to compel discovery within seven (7) from the date of this Order. Petitioner shall file a reply within three (3) days of Respondent's response. The Court will set a scheduling order after resolution of the Petitioner's motion. Magistrate Judge Carmen E.
