Judge Richard G. Stearns: ELECTRONIC ORDER entered re 6 Response to Petition for Writ of Habeas Corpus - 2241 filed by Antone Moniz. Petitioner Leonidas Barrera Gonzalez is a Guatemalan national, born July 1, 1981, and a long-term Massachusetts resident who entered the United States without inspection in August 1998. He has lived in the United States for nearly 28 years and is the father of a daughter (age 5) who is a United States citizen. Barrera Gonzalez claims eligibility for non-LPR cancellation of removal under 8 U.S.C. § 1229b(b) and T-Nonimmigrant Status as an individual subjected to a form of severe trafficking in persons under 22 U.S.C. § 7101 et seq. and INA § 101(a)(15)(T)(i). Barrera Gonzalez was detained in Massachusetts -- he challenges his detention and seeks immediate release. The court orders that defendants facilitate a bond hearing for him before an Immigration Judge (consistent with the standards outlined in Hernandez-Lara v. Lyons, 10 F.4th 19 (1st Cir. 2021)), as soon as practicable, but in no case later than April 14, 2026. (MZ) (Entered: 04/07/2026)
