MINUTES (In Chambers) Order Referring Case to the Federal Public Defense to Consider Appointment of Counsel by Judge Kenly Kiya Kato. The office of the Federal Public Defender for the Central District of California (FPD) has indicated that it will accept appointments to represent pro se petitioners in immigration-related habeas corpus proceedings such as this one. Accordingly, the Court REFERS this case to the FPD for consideration of appointment of counsel for Petitioner. The FPD is ORDERED to file a response within seven (7) days of this order issuing, indicating whether the FPD will represent Petitioner in this matter. (IN CHAMBERS) TEXT-ONLY ENTRY by Magistrate Judge A. Joel Richlin: Now that the District Judge has ruled on and denied Petitioner's Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order, the Court directs Respondents to file a response to the Petition on the merits no later than February 20, 2026. Petitioner shall have until March 6, 2026 to file a response. The Court is granting Petitioner additional time to respond because he is proceeding pro se and is in custody. Petitioner can also request additional time upon a showing of good cause. Once the Court receives Petitioner's response, the Court will take the matter under submission without a hearing. See Fed. R.
