MINUTE ORDER IN CHAMBERS of the Honorable Judge Cristina D. Silva on 2/20/2026. The respondents seek a five-day extension to file a response to Xi Hong's petition for writ of habeas corpus, which Hong opposes. ECF No. 8 . The respondents' counsel seeks this extension because of competing deadlines, the voluminous number of habeas cases received of late, and his office being short-staffed. Id. Although I find that counsel's heavy caseload does not constitute good cause, I nonetheless allow this brief extension of time—and this is the respondents' first request in this matter. It is therefore ordered that the respondents' deadline to file their response is extended to February 27, 2026.(no image attached) (Copies have been distributed pursuant to the NEF - JLB) (Entered: 02/20/2026)

MINUTE ORDER IN CHAMBERS of the Honorable Judge Cristina D. Silva on 3/2/2026. The federal respondents move for a seven-day extension of time to respond to Xi Hong's petition for writ of habeas corpus. ECF No. 12 . The federal respondents seek this extension, among other things, because they are waiting for essential information needed to complete their response. Id. Title 28, United States Code, Section 2241 requires that petitions for writ of habeas corpus be promptly addressed. Although this is the respondents' second request in this matter, I find good cause to grant it in part, nunc pro tunc. The federal respondents' deadline to respond is extended to 12:00 p.m. on March 4, 2026.(no image attached) (Copies have been distributed pursuant to the NEF - JLB) (Entered: 03/02/2026)
