Motion Extend/Shorten Time
#10
Jan 23, 2026
MINUTE ORDER IN CHAMBERS of the Honorable Judge Gloria M. Navarro on 1/23/2026. Pending before the Court is the 9 Unopposed Motion to Extend Time filed by Petitioner Seyed Hojjat Azimi Osmavandani. Petitioner's counsel explains that they understood the Court's 3 Order to result in a deadline of January 29, 2026, to file an amended petition, while counsel for Respondents understood the deadline to be January 22, 2026. Petitioner's counsel filed the 9 Motion for Extension of Time "out of an abundance of caution" based on the parties' difference in calculation of the deadline. The Court's 3 Order, entered on January 8, provided that the FPD had 7 days to make an appearance. Once the FPD made an appearance, the Order explained that it would "then have 14 days to file an Amended Petition." The FPD made an appearance on January 15, 2026. (Not. Appearance, ECF No. 6 ). Per the Court's 3 Order, it has 14 days from the date it made an appearance to file an amended petition. Thus, the deadline to file an amended petition is January 29, 2026. Because the deadline has not yet passed and Petitioner's counsel does not seek an extension beyond January 29 in its motion, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the 9 Unopposed Motion for Extension of Time is DENIED as moot.(Copies have been distributed pursuant to the NEF - ANH) (Entered: 01/23/2026)

MINUTE ORDER IN CHAMBERS of the Honorable Judge Gloria M. Navarro on 2/5/2026. Pending before the Court is the 14 Motion to Seal filed by Petitioner Seyed Hojjat Azimi Osmavandani. "[A] party seeking to seal a judicial record... bears the burden of overcoming [the] strong presumption [in favor of access] by meeting the 'compelling reasons' standard." Ctr. for Auto Safety v. Chrysler Grp., LLC, 809 F.3d 1092, 1096 (9th Cir. 2016) (quoting Kamakana v. City & Cnty. of Honolulu, 447 F.3d 1172, 1178 (9th Cir. 2006)). Petitioner explains that he seeks to file two exhibits to his Amended Petition under seal because they include sensitive medical information. The Court finds that Petitioner has met his burden of showing there are "compelling reasons" to seal the exhibits as required under Ctr. for Auto Safety, 809 F.3d at 1096. Accordingly, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the 14 Motion to Seal is GRANTED. (Copies have been distributed pursuant to the NEF - ANH) (Entered: 02/05/2026)
